#Delivering complex projects

International Methods Engineer and Technical Manager Dominique Marchand has joined BESIX Watpac as Engineering Director to drive growth of the Operational Support Services (OSS) division and complex projects.

BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker said Dominique’s experience in delivering highly complex and challenging projects would lead the company’s unique OSS offering.

“Our passion is to deliver sustainable solutions for a better world, and this is driven by an engineering first approach. Dominique has a track record of interrogating delivery and finding cost savings, efficiencies and innovations that have not only saved his clients millions of dollars, but also had positive impacts on waste management and environmental integrity.”

“This is a company that understands the importance of putting engineering first.”

Dominique spent the formative years of his career in France and Europe with Bouygues and VSL International building complex viaduct structures and bridges.

Moving to Australia in 2004 to lead the construction of the M7 in Sydney, Dominique coordinated the delivery of the Lighthouse Interchange and the construction of more than 33 bridges in the 40km stretch.

“The M7 was a big project for VSL in Australia and I was employed as a technical manager with a remit to not only deliver this project but build up the technical team within VSL to deliver more complex projects,” Dominique said.

“Following the successful completion of the M7 I worked on numerous other projects – overseeing and teaching the technical team and assisting with the development of specialists equipment designed by the group technical centre in Singapore.

In the late 2000s, Dominique moved to Brisbane to work on the Gateway bridge, Go Between Bridge, Airport link Bridge and Expressway. He also participated in the complex – deconstruction and reconstruction of Newmarket Viaduct (Auckland NZ) without closing the road which transported 160,000 cars per day.
