Complex engineering solutions

This joint venture between BESIX and Orascom delivered a 3-kilometre F-Shaped jetty that is of great significance to the region. Close collaboration between the joint venture parties and the client enabled the fast-tracked five-and-a-half-month delivery of the first berth - from the first pile driven to being operational. This was made possible by using three jackups and crane barges, and seven supply barges and tugboats. BESIX's agility allowed for the rapid change of design when an issue was encountered. The first 550 metres of the jetty was originally designed as a rock-dumped causeway. Liquefaction issues were encountered during soil investigation sparking a rapid design change to future-proof against potential problems.
