After a year like no other, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation OzHarvest has experienced a massive increase in demand from people experiencing food insecurity for the very first time.

“OzHarvest has gone above and beyond in its response to the dramatic rise in demand for food relief this year, providing a lifeline to countless people across the country,” said BESIX Watpac CEO Jean-Pol Bouharmont.

“By supporting OzHarvest, we are helping those in need through the extraordinary efforts of this great charity.”

Founded by Ronni Kahn AO in 2004, OzHarvest began with a simple concept to rescue good food destined for waste and deliver it to those who would otherwise go without.

From this humble beginning, the organisation now operates nationally, driven by its purpose to ‘nourish our country’, rescuing over 25 tonnes of food each week from commercial outlets and delivering it to more than 1,500 charities.

In the spirit of giving, BESIX Watpac will donate $25,000 which will provide 50,000 meals to those who need it most, as well as collecting food donations at our offices across the country.

Our teams have also been out on the road joining food runs and lending a hand packing hampers.

BESIX Watpac’s Amy Saunders said volunteering on a Brisbane food run was a great experience.

“The OzHarvest team is amazing and to see what they do up-close and be a part of it, even for one day has made me realise how invaluable the work they do really is.

“I’m proud to work for a company that cares about our communities and enables its people to volunteer and make a difference,” Amy said.
