Delivered on an extremely large brownfield site, this project involved the refurbishment and extension of some existing facilities and the construction of new facilities at Lavarack Barracks. These works needed to be completed prior to the relocation of Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) from Holsworthy. BESIX Watpac drove the review and redesign of the seasonal high flow creek which runs through the site, the topography of which had changed significantly between the design and commencement of the build due to the impact of intervening wet seasons. This outcome rationalised the scope of the work, improved long term stability and reduced construction cost. Additional works included storm water and drainage management that involved stabilising creek banks. A contaminated waste stockpile adjacent to an active watercourse was remediated into a monocell containment system located under the proposed deployment area. This project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule.
