Watpac has received high praise for the new Roma Hospital which has been formally taken over by the South West Hospital and Health Service.

Modern materials and the very latest in health care technology are a feature of the new facility which will be the centre of health services delivery for Roma and Queensland’s south west for the next 20 years.

Watpac’s Project Manager Brett Rosenthal is very pleased with the quality.

“The Watpac team and our subcontractors have delivered an exceptional result and the facilities here match anything you’d see anywhere in the world, just on a smaller scale,” Brett said.

“We’re pleased to have been able to work with the consultants and the client to improve some design elements along the way and come up with an even better product.”

Queensland’s South West Hospital and Health Service is thrilled.

“Watpac has been wonderful to deal with. Nothing has been too difficult. We’ve built a really solid relationship and if there were any problems or issues, I’ve been personally contacted and we’ve worked it through,” said Linda Patat, Chief Executive of the South West Hospital and Health Service.

“Watpac have been fantastic in relation to local suppliers and where possible, local workers, Indigenous cadetships, renting out local homes to accommodate their people.

“They have also taken a personal approach with our local community and responded to anything the community wanted to talk about,” she said.

Project consultants Aurecon were also complimentary. “It is a quality job and that’s what we expect to get from Watpac. The subcontractors have done a great job too,” said Jonathan Hirst, National Health Lead for Aurecon.

“This hospital will be something the community of Roma and the Maranoa will be very proud to have.”

The Watpac team is proud of the legacy they will leave for Roma. “We’ve enjoyed being part of the community, we’ve sponsored some local events and we had the ‘Name the Crane’ competition. Every school in the region participated, not just in Roma, but further out,” Brett said.

“We’re really proud of what we’ve done, what we’ve achieved.”

Watpac will stay on in Roma to carry out some demolition works and construct the new carpark on the site.
